If you have a PM 1100 then you can use the Windows-based PanelMate configuration editor. I have not used this software since 2002 as I've only seen clients recently use RSView, WinCCflexible, etc. For HMIs and not any PanelMates. My memories of this software are not pleasant as it was essentially a 16-bit application pretending to play in the 32-bit world. I'm sure they've fixed that now but at that time it didn't even support full-length file names and still used INI files. Also it always wanted to you run in 256 colour mode on your Windows system.
If you have a PM 1000, then, as noted, you are in a bit of a pickle as you have to get the old DOS software and a PC or laptop that will allow COM port access for DOS. From my PanelMate days I would say that the risk of having something fancy in a screen or message is unlikely at best. The fanciest thing I can remember off the top of my head is a bit of type conversion and string concatenation (as the PM had lousy support for strings at that time). So, just go for it.
The PV+ is much more powerful than the PM 1000 even in its simplest form. Let Grantek know if you need any specific help. Actually last year Eaton released a PM1000 transfer utility that works on Windows XP.
You can use the old serial cable that worked under a DOS-based OS and upload the application without hunting for an old Windows 95 or 98 PC. It's available for download on the Eaton Electrical website under 'Tools & Downloads - Software Downloads'. Then select Operator Interface - PM Vintage Software and Conversion Utilities - Software Download PanelMate 1000. From there you can download all the PanelMate 1000 configuration software and transfer utility at no charge.
Eaton also recently released a PM1000 import utility in the Canvas software that converts the PM1000 application so that it can run on a PanelMate ePro PS unit. You have clicked on the '?' Button for search help.
